Interactive Storytelling with Twine

This workshop will introduce participants to Twine, an open-source tool for creating non-linear interactive stories, and how it can be used as a medium for Indigenous storytelling. Participants will learn how to create their very own Twine game that can be played in any web browser. Additionally, this workshop will also teach the basics of CSS coding to style their game with custom elements, images, and sounds. Making a Twine game requires creators to consider narrative design and game design techniques, both of which generally apply in other game development contexts.

Game Design With Bitsy

This workshop will introduce participants to Bitsy, a free browser-based tool for creating simple narrative-driven games, and how it can be used as a medium for Indigenous storytelling. Participants will learn how to create their very own Bitsy game that can be played in any web browser. They will be taught how to design unique rooms, avatars, sprites, and written dialogues for players to experience. Making a Bitsy game requires creators to consider narrative and visual game design techniques, both of which generally apply in other game development contexts.
